Ballet

R.A.D Syllabus

Ballet is the art of dance requiring strength, resilience, elegance and grace all at once. Ballet can be studied at any age. Girls and boys who study ballet develop strong bodies, spatial and temporal awareness, and improve their coordination. A proven scientific, long-term bonus is that, it has been shown that girls and boys retain the flexibility brought about by ballet throughout their adult lives. Although Ballet is not compulsory, it is recommended as ballet technique is considered to be the basis of training for all types of dance.

Jazz

A traditional style, which incorporates balance extension turns and strong movements. Modern Jazz is frequently influenced by other styles such as acrobatics, ballet, contemporary, lyrical and hip hop. In turn, many other dance styles are influenced by jazz dance.

Tap

A rhythmical beating making music with your feet. We incorporate both traditional and street tap, a style inspired by the tap dogs.

Hip Hop

Energetic and fast paced, a combination of commercial and street dance. What separates hip hop from other forms of dance is that it is often freestyle in nature. High paced and off the chart!

Acrobatics

Works with balance, agility and motor coordination. Tricks such as cartwheels, handstands, rollovers and other simple moves are taught for the junior school. More advanced forms such as flips and jumps are taught to more advanced students. Mats will ensure a soft landing.

Contemporary

Contemporary dance is characterized by its versatility. Contemporary can be danced to almost any style of music, or united with other dance forms to create new styles of movement. Contemporary seeks to work with the natural alignment of the body, and is therefore safe and accessible for beginners. At the same time, the ease of movement promoted by contemporary dance technique allows experienced dancers to push new boundaries of body movement. Ballet is the core of this style.

Pointe

En pointe (pointe) means “on the tip” and is a part of classical ballet technique practiced using specially reinforced shoes called pointe shoes. Girls from the age of 13 – 16 can start on pointe once they have demonstrated ability in ballet classes. Strengthening of the ankles and feet are important when moving onto pointe and normal ballet classes will assist in this area.

Zumba

Zumba Fitness is the only Latin-inspired dance-fitness program that blends red-hot international music, and contagious steps to form a “fitness-party” that is downright addictive. The Zumba program has grown to become the worlds largest – and most successful – dance-fitness program. These fitness/dance classes are available to everyone of all ages. Get fit, have fun.
